Today the Ontario Hockey League announced that the NHL's final Central Scouting list includes 67 players from the OHL. Two Barrie Colts made the list.
Barrie Colts defenceman Justin Murray cracked a spot on the North American Skaters list. Murray landed in the 137th spot; while backup goalie David Ovsjannikov made the North American Goalies list in spot number 24.
Murray is playing in his first season with the Barrie Colts. In the regular season, he appeared in 65 games where he scored 3 goals and got 10 assists. Justin has 36 penalty minutes and scored a game winning goal in that time. He has been excellent for the Colts early in the playoffs showing that he can be a reliable blue liner, while playing a tough and aggressive game. Never backs down from taking the body but rarely does so in a way that leaves him out of position.
Ovsjannikov is in his first year with Barrie. In 3 OHL seasons he has played in 53 games averaging a GAA of 3.83 and a .888 SAV%. In that time he has 20 wins. In round 1 of the playoffs he had to fill in for goalie Mackenzie Blackwood who was out for a couple games with a bruised tailbone. Ovsjannikov filled in for 4 games where he helped get Barrie 2 important wins.
This years 2016 NHL Draft is set to take place June 24-25 in Buffalo, New York. For the complete list of OHL players who made the list
